Continue the learning journey with the following extension activity:
In BEST BREAKFAST CAFÉ, have students use supplies such as paper, magazine clippings, and colored pencils to create a restaurant menu with five or six different breakfast combo options. Students can use the article for inspiration if needed, but they should also use independent thinking to create their menus. Each meal on their menu should include a mix of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Infuse some fun into the activity by encouraging students to give their restaurant a unique name. Particularly creative students might even sketch pictures of some of the most eye-catching plates on their menu. Be sure to have everyone share their menus at the end. Note: In culturally diverse classrooms, this would be a great opportunity for students to discuss nutritious breakfast foods from their respective cultural backgrounds.
